Cancer Care Program

YogaSource + Stanford CSCP movement & Meditation Program

We are honored to collaborate with The Stanford Cancer Supportive Care Program (CSCP) to create our new YogaSource Cancer Care Movement & Meditation Program.

Our Mission

We want patients to feel safe, cared for, and confident that we are here for them no matter what they may need.  The Cancer Supportive Care Program follows the Stanford Hospital standard of providing not only state-of-the-art medical care but also the highest quality of patient care, and that means healing the mind, the body and the spirit.

Our mission is to complement cancer therapy by integrating all aspects of healing: strengthening the body, educating the mind, and nurturing hope and courage while remaining accessible to patients regardless of economic level.

We provide education, information and emotional support during the difficult decision-making period and throughout the treatment process and survivorship: One Patient at a Time.

Yogasource + Cscp

The YogaSource Cancer Care Movement & Meditation Program will begin in January of 2014 with (5) classes.  All classes will be taught by our specially trained yoga, pilates and Nia teachers.  Classes will be offered complimentary to all cancer patients, survivors, their families and support.  It is our sincere wish to provide a warm and safe environment for patients to enjoy, find community, and receive support to ease the side effects of cancer and its treatment, and to improve the quality of their lives.  Classes and events are open to anyone with cancer, their caregivers in community regardless of where they receive care ~ free of charge.

Monday 2- 3:15pm  Gentle Yoga & Meditation
Wednesday 2- 3:15pm  Restorative
Friday 2- 3:15pm  Gentle Pilates
Sunday 2- 3 pm  Yoga Basics for Cancer Survivorship

YogaSource + Stanford CSCP Movement & Meditation 
Description of Classes

Gentle Yoga & Meditation for Stanford CSCP ~ this gentle yoga class will use guided meditation, breath work, gentle movements, therapeutic poses and music.  Focus will be on reducing stress/fatigue and pain, finding joy and creativity in movements, improving circulation and mobility, and exploring the loving support of others. 

Yoga Basics for Cancer Survivorship for Stanford CSCP ~ this basic yoga class will rebuild strength, stamina and physical fitness through easy to learn yoga poses and sequences. Focus will be on recovery, decreasing stress and fatigue, finding joy in the body and movement, and exploring a loving community of support with others. 

Restorative Yoga for Stanford CSCP ~ this deeply relaxing and restful class will use therapeutic yoga poses done primarily on the floor with the support of bolsters, blankets, blocks, therapy balls, straps and eye pillows.  Designed to nuture, nourish and renew the body, mind and spirit, this class will be accompanied by lovely music, inspirational reading, and therapeutic touch. 

Gentle Pilates for Stanford CSCP ~ this gentle pilates class is a series of exercises that will help to build flexibility, regain muscle strength, endurance and overall posture. These mat-based classes will put emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment, deep breathing, and developing core strength- essential for improving coordination and balance. 

** All Classes are complimentary for patients, survivors, their families and caregivers regardless of where they receive their care. No prior experience required.  All levels of health welcome.

This has been a project in the works for some time by one of our senior teachers, Cindy Walker, B.A. RYT who has been passionately working with people who have life threatening diseases for many years and in fact, Cindy created the 1st Yoga for Cancer Program for Stanford in Palo Alto over 12 years ago.
