Erin Matteucci

Erin’s yogic journey began with a beginner’s video and a carefully-placed mat on her bedroom floor. It definitely wasn't love at first chaturanga-but posture by posture and class by class, she felt her body begin to feel lighter, quieter and stronger. Craving the relaxed exhaustion and focused quiet mind in her own body, she teaches from that space with a consuming gentle presence that immediately puts you at ease on your yoga mat. Erin believes that it is through alignment, focus and intention that you find yourself- Hold Warrior I for 10 breaths and meet who you really are! A power yoga devotee, she thinks that Baron said it best, "steady breath, steady gaze, steady mind = steady practice". Can we move with grace even when challenged by a practice we once moved through with ease? We are different every day, every moment. It is with acceptance that you grow in your physical practice, with awareness that you learn to make your movements purposeful, and with an open heart that you take your yoga practice off the mat. Erin holds two 200-hour teaching certifications and has been teaching power yoga for the last 6 years.

I have been practicing meditation and yoga since 1996, sitting and moving with teachers from the Tibetan Buddhist, Kripalu, Ashtanga, and Iyengar streams. Along the way I’ve trained as a yoga therapist and an Ayurvedic consultant, and have maintained a private practice in Toronto since 2008. From 2008 through 2012 I co-directed Yoga Festival Toronto and Yoga Community Toronto, non-profit activist organizations dedicated to promoting open dialogue and accessibility. During that same period I studied jyotiśhāstra in a small oral-culture setting at the Vidya Institute in Toronto. I currently facilitate programming for yoga trainings internationally, focusing on yoga philosophy, meditation, Ayurveda, and the social psychology of practice. In all subject areas, I encourage students to explore how yoga practice can resist the psychic and material dominance of neoliberalism, and the quickening pace of environmental destruction.

Jenn Field

Jenn has been a student of Bikram Yoga for the past 11 years and a full-time instructor for the past 3 years. She received her certification directly through Bikram in 2008 and furthered her education in the Advanced Bikram series in 2010. She has also been certified in the practice of Vinyasa Yoga, trained in India in the practice of Vipassana medition, and holds a B.S / B.A from Duke University. Her additional knowledge only enhances the way she teaches the Bikram series.

Jenn's most recent passion is delving into the lineage and history of both Bikram and Vinyasa yoga to satisfy her curiosity about the differences in alignment and language. She believes that to truly understand and teach each type of yoga it helps to understand their different histories. At YogaSource Jenn teaches a traditional class in the sense that she does not stray from the original 26 asanas. She believes that Bikram and his guru, Bishnu Ghosh, created the 26 asana series for a specific reason and she has a deep respect for the order of the asanas and specific alignment of each asana. With that being said, she also understands that each body is different and she is always ready to help those students (either in class or privately) modify their poses for injury or to suit their own body, while keeping with the proper alignment and spirit of Bikram Yoga. Jenn teaches 7 classes a week, a number of private lessons a month, and leads the Advanced Bikram workshops at YogaSource. She gives special thanks to the amazing yogini, Linda McGrath, whose advice has led her to hone her teaching skills since she joined the YogaSource Bikram team. When she is not taking an amazing class at YogaSource, Jenn is spending time with her boyfriend and their french bulldog, Mishka.

Why Take The YogaSource Training

Video Overlay

"... I am super grateful of the opportunity to practice teaching. That made a great difference in my progression. By far that was the key to your program – giving us all the opportunity to teach and get used to speaking, yoging, putting together sequences, etc. Thank you, thank you, thank you, for not just filling our brains! You let our brains activate our bodies."

— K.

"I think it was good for me even though I am already teaching (and the training was probably less stressful for me than most because of that) but I feel it gave me another way of looking at sequences and taught me how to develop balanced classes. I also just liked hanging out with everyone and laughing and learning more about yoga and its history, influences and where it's going."

— E.

"What amazes me most is the transformation that occurred with each individual student within a short period of time. It was a whirlwind of fascinating information, techniques and concentrated physical practice and intense focus. It amazes me how far we have come and what growth lies ahead… This training was one of the best things I've done and I will be forever grateful for it. It was fun, but challenging, and certainly placed me outside of my comfort zone a few times – I loved every minute of it, absolutely! My own practice has grown more than I could have imagined."

— S.
